We can tell our stories.
We can fall in love with what gives us
life. We can love others as we love
ourselves.

About Jane
Jane Herring is a writer, artist, pastor, and spiritual companion who brings warmth, wit, and fierce honesty to everything she does. An ordained and installed Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Jane currently serves as the moderator of the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee and pastors Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Nashville.
A life-long student of words and stories, Jane is the author of One Day I Wrote Back: Interacting with Scripture Through Creative Writing and contributes regularly to contemplative and devotional publications. Her sermons are known for their honesty, theological depth, and earthy imagery—rooted in her life as a wife, mother, spiritual guide, and lifelong wanderer with Jesus.
Born and raised in the silty clay soil of West Tennessee, Jane met God early—through trees, birdsong, the wide Mississippi River, and the hush of twilight fields. Jesus found her before she knew she needed finding, showing up along the winding, uneven road of her life in the laughter of friends, the sorrows of grief, and the sacred messiness of everything. She loves Jesus, but she still cusses sometimes.
Jane has had enough pubic and private post-enlightenment education to know it isn’t intellectually fashionable to believe in God - she believes anyway. Creator, Christ, Holy Spirit—God everywhere, and far beyond anything we can control or explain—that’s the song her soul can’t stop singing. Her faith rests in they mystery that despite the pain and suffering of this life, there is nothing bigger or more powerful than God’s love for us. The only way to test it is to try it again every day.
Jane earned a B.A. from the University of Memphis, an M.F.A. in fiction writing from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School, where she received the Nella May Overby Award. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in creative writing and public theology at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
A thoughtful, compassionate pastoral caregiver and spiritual coach, Jane brings creativity, curiosity, and a steady faith to the people she serves. She believes God delights in our stories—unfinished and full of the grace of Jesus Christ—and she’s committed to helping others discover the holy beauty and the presence of Christ in their stories too.
